1 Prediction of conservative epitopes in the NS1 sequences of all four dengue virus serotypes / Hoang Xuan Cuong, Vu Minh Thuong, Do Nhu Binh, Dao Duc Tien, Bui Thuy Linh, Vo Thi Bich Thuy // .- 2023 .- Vol 21 - Number 3 .- P. 443-454 .- 610

The Dengue virus, transmitted by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, causes dengue fever, a life-threatening illness. NS1 (Nonstructural Protein 1) has been widely used as a biomarker for detecting dengue due to its early occurrence, high sensitivity, and specificity. The main objective of this study was to design an epitope-rich peptide capable of identifying all four dengue serotypes using homology modeling. Homology protein modeling, a computational approach, predicts the 3D structure of a protein by comparing its sequence to a known template. To achieve this goal, various bioinformatics tools, such as Blast/NCBI, BepiPred, Discotope 2.0, and HADDOCK, were utilized.

2 Expression of global consensus non-structural protein 1 (NS1) of dengue virus serotypes 1 and 2 in Nicotiana benthamiana / Cu Le Nguyen, Nguyen Ngoc Luong, Tuong Quoc Trieu, Nguyen Hoang Loc // .- 2023 .- Vol 21 - Number 3 .- P. 513-529 .- 610

Dengue viruses, which consist of four distinct serotypes, belong to the Flavivirus family, one of the most important arthropod-borne pathogen groups for humans. Vietnam is among the tropical countries that have endemic dengue outbreaks, and in 2022, the number of infections as well as fatal cases reached a record high, causing a great economic burden to the public health system. Although all four dengue serotypes have been circulating in Vietnam, serotypes 1 and 2 have been dominating in the last few decades.

3 Reporting the impact of artemisinin resistance: Molecular surveillance of pfK13 and pfEXO mutations in Plasmodium falciparum in Southern provinces of Vietnam / Tran Thi Thu Huyen, Le Van Khanh, Bui Thi Thu Hien, Nguyen Thi Lan Dung, Nguyen Van Long, Nguyen Dang Ton // .- 2023 .- Vol 21 - Number 3 .- P. 393-405 .- 610

Malaria, mainly caused by Plasmodium falciparum, is a major global health concern. In Vietnam, resistance to artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) is rising, jeopardizing malaria control efforts. This study focuses on mutations in the pfK13 and pfEXO genes, particularly the E415G mutation, in Southern Vietnam. The study involved 421 patients across two cohorts. The first, with 63 patients from Binh Phuoc and Dak Nong, had uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria and were part of the Therapeutic Efficacy Studies (TES), treated according to WHO guidelines (2009). The second cohort, comprising 358 patients from the Central Highlands, aimed to assess mutation frequency in genes linked to artemisinin resistance. Molecular marker analysis, including Sanger sequencing for pfK13 and ARMS-PCR for E415G in pfEXO, was conducted. The study also examined the association of these mutations with Day 3 parasitemia and treatment outcomes using Dihydroartemisinin-Piperaquine (DHA-PPQ).

4 Detection of an EDA mutation causing hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia in a Vietnamese patient / Vu Thi Hong Nhung, La Duc Duy, Le Thi Thanh Huong, Nguyen Thuy Duong // .- 2023 .- Vol 21 - Number 3 .- P. 407-414 .- 610

Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (HED) is a rare disease characterized by abnormal development of the structures derived from the ectoderm layer, including hair, teeth, nails, and sweat glands. The most observed form of HED, which is known as X-linked hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (XLHED), is commonly attributed to genetic abnormalities in the ectodysplasin A (EDA) gene.

5 Variants APOA5 p.G185C and p.S19W associated with early-onset severe hypertriglyceridemia-induced pancreatitis and diabetes complications in a Vietnamese girl / Nguyen Huu Hong Thu, Nong Thuy Linh, Ma Thi Huyen Thuong, Nguyen Thuy Duong, Nguyen Hai Ha // .- 2023 .- Vol 21 - Number 3 .- P. 415-424 .- 610

An imbalance of glucose and severely high triglyceride are the key characteristics driving hypertriglyceridemia and hyperlipidemic pancreatitis. Hereditary factors considerably promote the increase of triglyceride levels and secondary complications. This study explored the clinical characteristics and genetic causes of a young girl with recurrent severe hypertriglyceridemia-developed pancreatitis at 9-year-olds and diabetes mellitus appearance at 14-year-olds.

6 Association study of NAT2 rs1799931 polymorphism with male infertility / Nguyen Thanh Thuy, Pham Tien Duc, Tran Huu Dinh, Nguyen Thuy Duong // .- 2023 .- Vol 21 - Number 3 .- P. 425-433 .- 610

Infertility is a complex disease that is characterized by the failure to achieve pregnancy after 24 months of regular, unprotected sexual intercourse. Various factors result in male sterility, including genetic and non-genetic factors. Recently, scientists have drawn attention to the role of metabolic genes in contributing to the risk of male infertility by inducing reactive oxygen species (ROS). However, such studies about N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2), an enzyme that participates in phase II metabolism, remain limited. Thus, this study investigated whether the NAT2 rs1799931 variant was associated with idiopathic male sterility in Vietnam. A total of 306 DNA samples (148 cases and 158 controls) were genotyped using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) methods. About 20% of randomly selected samples were confirmed using an allele-specific polymerase chain reaction (AS-PCR).

7 Cytokine inhibitory activity of eurycomanone in RAW 264.7 cells stimulated with viral-mimicking poly (I:C) / Nguyen Thi Ha Trang, Tran Thu Trang, Nguyen Trung Nam // .- 2023 .- Vol 21 - Number 3 .- P. 435-441 .- 610

Poly (I:C) (Polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid) is a synthetic analog of double-stranded RNA binding toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) and mimicking a virus infection in macrophage. These results suggested that eurycomanone has a potentially regulatory role on production of both pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines in macrophage in the mimicking context of virus infection. Whether eurycomanone inhibits the binding of poly (I:C)-TLR3 or intracellular signaling pathways needs further investigation.

8 Title of the article: Cigarette smoking and its association with hiv viral load among HIV-positive opioid users in Vietnam / Nguyen Truong Giang, Nguyen Van Huy, Nguyen Bich Diep, Nguyen Thu Trang, Le Minh Giang // .- 2023 .- Tập 173 - Số 12 - Tháng 12 .- P. 219-228 .- 610

The study aimed to determine the smoking prevalence and explore the association between smoking and viral load among people living with HIV who are drug users (HIV+ PWID) in Vietnam. We used secondary data from a descriptive cross-sectional study of 280 HIV+ PWID in an open-label, non-inferiority trial from July 2015 to February 2018 at six HIV clinics in Northern Vietnam.
