The primary purpose of this graduation paper is to translate the original version of chapter 7 from the book “Found in translation: how language shapes our lives and transforms the world" by Nataly Kelly & Jost Zetzsche, 2012. This thesis is analyzing the vocabulary and structure of sentences. I want to express my knowledge and help the reader have a deep understanding of the importance of translation. That is translation affects every aspect of our life - and we're not just talking about the obvious things, like world politics and global business. Translation converts the words of bussinesmans, diplomats, princes and pop stars, bus drivers or baseball players. Translation fuels the global economy, prevents wars, and stops the outbreak of disease. In the translation process, I considered that choosing the appropriate method facilitates the translation process so that content conveys the right meaning in the target language. Depending on the source and target language, audiences, culture, and semantics, it’s crucial to combine different strategies to create a satisfying translation for the reader. Finally, based on the translated version and analysis of this paper, I also find out some difficulties when I translate this book. In addition, I want to share practical solutions to help students have expert translation skills at the end of this study.

An analysis of the suggested translation of chapter I from the book “Out to work- a history of wage-earning women in the united states” by Alice Kessler-Harris, 2003
  • Tác giả: Vo Hoang Tra My |
  • Giảng viên hướng dẫn: Nguyen Quynh Chi, M.A |
  • Chuyên ngành: Tiếng Anh Biên - Phiên dịch

My area of expertise is interpreting and translating. The topic I chose for my graduation thesis was a suggested translation of chapter I entitled: “Forming the female wage labor force: colonial America to the civil war” of the book “OUT TO WORK – A history of wage-earning women in the United States” by Alice Kessler-Harris. This book traces the transformation of "women's work" into wage labor in the United States, identifying the social, economic, and ideological forces that have shaped our expectations of what women do, examines the influence of class, ethnic and racial patterns on changing perceptions of salaried work on women. This graduation helps translators improve their translation skills and understand the strengths and weaknesses of the translation.

An analysis of the suggested translation of chapter 6 from the book "The global cold war : third world interventions and the making of our times" by Odd Arne Westad, 2007

  • Chuyên ngành: Tiếng Anh Biên - Phiên dịch

The research scope of the graduate paper is Chapter 6 - The crisis of decolonization: Southern Africa extracted from Odd Arne Westad's book “The Global Cold War: Third World Interventions and the Making of Our Times”. The study aims at finding the causes of ambiguity factors and then suggesting some possible strategies to overcome the problems. In addition, I practice my ability to analyze complex terminology and structures by applying theories, translation strategies, and theoretical issues to documents. My translation abilities have greatly increased as a result of translating and studying this thesis. Moreover, I also learned how to deal with problems in the original text to get a better version of the proposal.
