Zimbardo narrates the whole narrative of the Stanford prison experiment, the seminal research in which a group of college-student volunteers was randomly separated into "guards" and "inmates" and then placed in a mimic prison setting, for the first time and in detail. Zimbardo's work illuminates the psychological causes of such disturbing transformations, allowing us to better understand a wide range of harrowing phenomena, from corporate malfeasance to organized genocide to how oncehonorable American soldiers came to abuse and torture Iraqi detainees at Abu Ghraib. He substitutes the long-held notion of the "bad apple" with the "bad barrel"—the idea that the social environment and system infect the individual rather than the other way around. He claims that we are capable of rejecting evil and that we can even educate ourselves to act courageously. The Lucifer Effect, like Hannah Arendt's Eichmann in Jerusalem and Steven Pinker's The Blank Slate, is a frightening, enthralling study that will revolutionize the way we understand human conduct.

This thesis is a suggested translation of Chapter 1 “Fake it till you make it” and Chapter 2 “The power of conversation” from the book “The art of conversation: How to communicate effectively by refining your social skills” by Stephen Haunts, 2019. The graduation paper includes the original version and suggested translation. Besides, it will be divided into six chapters. Chapter 1 is an introduction part which will be written about rationale, aims and objective, scope of the study and text resource. Secondly, chapter 2, chapter 3, chapter 4, chapter 5 are development parts which include the following contents: The theoretical background, principles and methods of translation; the suggested translation; the analysis and the last part is difficulties and solutions. Thanks to this part we can discover some basic knowledge about communication in life. The paper also presents some challenges and solutions that I encountered in the translation. Further study is also recommended for individuals who are interested in this issue to continue improving this research, which is chapter 6, in order to come up with conclusions and recommendations.

The book “Faith and power: religion and politics in the Middle East” by Bernard Lewis is about every aspect of Middle East including history, religion, politics, society. I choose chapter 5 “FREE AT LAST? The Arab World in the twenty-first century” to translate from English into Vietnamese. I also analysed certain necessary parts such as phrasal verbs and multimeaning words, as well as difficult structures including passive, compound and so on. Finally, basing on the translated version and analysis this paper, I also find out some difficulties that students have in translating this book. Furthermore, there are some effective suggestions to help students translate better at the end of the graduation thesis.
