This is a cross-sectional study conducted on 137 post-stroke patients aged ≥ 60 years old treated at the National Geriatric Hospital to explore some factors related to domains of comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA). The components of CGA assessed were medical status (nutrition; urinary incontinence, frailty, visual and hearing ability), functional status (Barthel index, instrumental activity daily living, risk of fall) and neuropsychological status (cognition and depression).
Chemotherapy is one type of systemic treatment for cancer that causes side effects on eating and energy supply, leading to weight loss and malnutrition. Detecting malnutrition early in gastric cancer patients plays a critical role in implementing an effective nutritional regimen that can improve their nutritional status, prevent weight loss, and enhance their ability to withstand and respond to chemotherapy. The cross-sectional study was performed on 95 patients in Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital from October 2021 to June 2022.
Various hematological abnormalities including coagulation factor abnormalities, leukocytosis, acute hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, and disseminated intravascular coagulopathy have been reported in acute pancreatitis patients. The purpose of this descriptive cross - sectional study was to describe characteristics of coagulation disorders in 96 children with acute pancreatitis at the Vietnam National Children's Hospital. rom January 2022 to March 2023.
Hyperuricemia and testosterone deficiency (TD) are two relatively common conditions in clinical practice. We conducted the present study on 9573 men to evaluate the association between the two conditions and establish a hypothetic explanation.
Non-small cell lung cancer is currently the second most common cancer when assessing common cancer and the number of cancer deaths; there are a limited number of studies about depression in lung cancer patients in Vietnam. This cross -sectional descriptive study aimed to describe depression in non-small cell lung cancer patients treated at K Hospital from 2021 – 2022 and associated factors. The study was conducted on 243 NSCLC patients treated at K Tan Trieu Hospital by direct phone call interview and psychiatric clinical examination.
Acute myocardial infarction (MI) is one of the leading causes of cardiovascular death and can experience many events during illness. Therefore, many risk prediction scales have been established to stratify patients with acute MI, in which TIMI and GRACE scores are common. We conducted this study to compare the predictability of GRACE and TIMI scores in patients with acute MI within 12 months. A prospective cohort study was performed on 195 patients with acute MI, of which 86 patients had ST elevation (STEMI) and 109 patients without ST elevation (NSTEMI). The study looked at five major events including death, coronary re-intervention, bleeding due to drug use, re-hospitalization, and stroke.
Nurses play an important role in dementia care delivery in hospitals and communities. Exploring nurses’ capacity aspects in dementia care such as knowledge, attitudes, and confidence is essential for developing appropriate health professional education to achieve optimal care in different aged care facilities. This cross-sectional study aimed to describe and examine the differences in population characteristics and dementia care capacity between the nursing home and hospital nurses in Hanoi, Vietnam from January to March 2023.
Report describes the first cases in Vietnam that identified pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants by NIPT-SGD in fetuses. These findings were compared with the diagnostic testing (whole exome sequencing/WES) on amniotic fluid/placenta tissue/umbilical cord blood samples. Single-gene NIPT detected pathogenic variants in the fetuses on TSC2, FGFR3, FGFR2 (two cases), and PTPN11 genes. All results coincided with the subsequent diagnosis. Preliminary research showed the potential of cell-free fetal DNA analysis for prenatal screening of dominant single-gene mutations.
Evaluated the correlation between plasma renin concentration (PRC) and plasma renin activity (PRA), and then PAC/PRC and PAC/PRA ratios on Maglumi 800 immunoassay analyzer. Forty-five plasma samples from volunteers were collected. PRC, PRA and PAC were measured by Maglumi 800 - a fully-auto chemiluminescence immunoassay analyzer. Correlation between plasma renin concentration (PRC) and plasma renin activity (PRA), and then PAC/PRC and PAC/PRA ratios were determined by regression analysis. PRC and PRA showed a good correlation (r = 0.88). The PAC/PRC and PAC/PRA ratios have a similar relationship (r = 0.757). Because of the advantages of the procedure and the independence of PRC from endogenous angiotensinogen levels, PRC may be used preferentially over PRA as high throughput screening tool.
Boga-TN is a formula originating from herbal medicines that are used to treat liver disorders; however, its toxicity is not yet investigated. Therefore, this study was conducted to assess the acute and sub-chronic toxicity of Boga-TN tablets in experimental animals. Acute toxicity study was performed via Swiss mice, with a single oral dose, and followed up to seven days according to World Health Organization Guidance. No sign of acute oral toxicity was detected, and the LD50 Boga-TN was estimated to be more than 60.38 g/kg.
