1 Serum vascular endothelial growth factor levels and some characteristics of diabetic retinopathy patients / Vu Van Nga, Nguyen Thi Binh Minh, Dinh Thi My Dung, Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, Hoang Thi Thu Ha, Le Thi Minh Phuong, Do Thi Le Hang, Do Thi Quynh, Pham Thi Thuy An, Le Ngoc Thanh, Tran Van Khanh, Vu Thi Thom // .- 2024 .- Volume 177 E14 - N 04 - May .- P. 74-82 .- 610

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a dangerous microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus (DM). The escalating prevalence of diabetes increases the rate of DR patients in Vietnam. Numerous studies have indicated that serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) can be used as a marker for monitoring the progression of this disease. Our study included 150 diabetic patients and 75 healthy individuals in the control group. Our study included 150 diabetic patients and a control group of 75 healthy individuals. We investigated the association between serum VEGF levels and some characteristics in diabetic retinopathy patients. Clinical data (pulse, blood pressure, medical history, and body mass index) and paraclinical data (Glucose, HbA1c) were collected. Serum samples were analyzed to determine VEGF concentrations. Our study fond that serum VEGF levels were higher in the group with DR compared to the other two groups and exhibited a correlation with glucose levels in diabetic patients (p < 0.05).

2 Prevalence and associated factors of gestational diabetes mellitus: A multicenter, cross-sectional study in mekong delta region / Tran Khanh Nga, Cao Ngoc Thanh, Pham Van Linh, Vo Thi Anh Trinh // .- 2024 .- Volume 177 E14 - N 04 - May .- P. 83-90 .- 610

The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence and associated factors of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in the Mekong Delta region. A multicenter, cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 1727 pregnant women undergoing oral glucose tolerance testing (OGTT) at 4 major central hospitals of 4 provinces in the Mekong Delta region from 06/2017 to 06/2022.

3 Evaluation of subchronic toxicity of diabetna capsules in experimental animals / Le Hong Oanh, Hoang Minh Chau, Khuat Van Manh, Phuong Thien Thuong, Dau Thuy Duong, Tran Quynh Trang, Pham Thi Van Anh, Dinh Thi Thu Hang, Nguyen Thi Thuy // .- 2024 .- Volume 177 E14 - N 04 - May .- P. 149-157 .- 615

This research aimed to evaluate the subchronic toxicity of Diabetna capsules through oral administration in experimental animals. The subchronic toxicity was studied in Wistar rats with oral doses of 0.72 g/kg/day (equal to recommended human dose) and 2.16 g/kg/day (3 times as high as recommended human dose) in consecutive 12 weeks, following guidance from the World Health Organization and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

4 Variants APOA5 p.G185C and p.S19W associated with early-onset severe hypertriglyceridemia-induced pancreatitis and diabetes complications in a Vietnamese girl / Nguyen Huu Hong Thu, Nong Thuy Linh, Ma Thi Huyen Thuong, Nguyen Thuy Duong, Nguyen Hai Ha // .- 2023 .- Vol 21 - Number 3 .- P. 415-424 .- 610

An imbalance of glucose and severely high triglyceride are the key characteristics driving hypertriglyceridemia and hyperlipidemic pancreatitis. Hereditary factors considerably promote the increase of triglyceride levels and secondary complications. This study explored the clinical characteristics and genetic causes of a young girl with recurrent severe hypertriglyceridemia-developed pancreatitis at 9-year-olds and diabetes mellitus appearance at 14-year-olds.

5 Isolation of α-mangostin from mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.) peels and evaluation of its inhibitory activity toward α-glucosidase and α-amylase in the combination with acarbose / Ngo Van Quang, Nguyen Thi Hong Minh, Nguyen Thi Mai Phuong // Công nghệ sinh học - Vietnam Journal of Biotechnology .- 2022 .- Vol. 20(4) .- P. 643-651 .- 615

Using the natural agents with inhibitory activity against digestive enzymes α-glucosidase and α-amylase capable of hydrolyzing carbohydrates into glucose to reduce blood glucose levels in the blood is one of the effective strategies to control diabetes, especially type II diabetes. α-Mangostin (AMG) was proven to have strong biological activities, such as antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer. However, the evaluation of the antidiabetic activity of this substance through inhibition of starch hydrolytic enzymes activity has not been fully carried out, especially when they are combined with commercial drugs, such as acarbose. In this study, AMG was isolated from the peels of the mangosteen grown in Vietnam using a simple isolation process with two steps: i) fractionation of the material in n-hexane solvent, and ii) chromatography of n-hexane fraction on a silica gel column combined with crystallization. The α-glucosidase inhibitory activity (AGI) and α-amylase inhibitory activity (AAI) of purified AMG alone or in combination with acarbose were then determined spectrophotometrically.

6 Overview of differences between analogue insulin and human insulin in the management of diabetes: Efficacy, limitation, and cost / Huynh Nguyen Phuong Anh, Nguyen Huu Duong, Cao Thi My Hanh, Nong Thi Huyen Trang, Vo Thi Bich Lien, Nguyen Thi Mai Dieu // Khoa học & Công nghệ Đại học Duy Tân .- 2022 .- Số 5(54) .- P. 179-190 .- 615

Insulin therapy is the primary therapy in the treatment of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) patients. And is an additional therapy for patients with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), which is combined with Non-insulin drugs in order to be more effective in treatment [4]. Choosing the right type of insulin for each patient plays an important role in ensuring that the treatment is highly effective, minimizing the side effects caused by the drug and bringing many economic benefits to the patients. In order to compare the differences between two types of insulin currently available on the market, analogue insulin and human insulin in the treatment of T1D and T2D, this study used literature review method to collect and analysis information from documents, books, papers, researches conducted and published scientifically from 2010 to now with content related to Diabetes mellitus (DM) and insulin preparations. Results: For T1D patients, rapid-acting insulin analogues (RAIAs) were more effective in glycemic control and less hypoglycemic compared to regular insulin human (RHI). The prevalence of hypoglycemia in T1D patients, who are treated with basal insulin analogue, is relatively lower than medium-acting insulin (Neutral Protamine Hagedorn - NPH). In patients with T2D, the combination of basal analogue insulin with oral agents increases the likelihood of achieving target blood glucose (HbA1C ≤ 7%) and reduces the rate of hypoglycemia higher than NPH insulin [5]. Despite the cost of treatment is higher than human insulin, but analogue insulins are still recommended for treatment in T1D patients because of the effects and benefits it provides. For some patients who have difficulty in the cost of treatment, the use of human insulin or mixed insulins also helps the patient to achieve the glycemic goal.

7 Characteristics of Lactobacillus strains isolated from Vietnamese patients with type 2 diabetes / Hoang The Hung, Hoa Thi Minh Tu, Pham Thi Thu Uyen, Le Thi Thanh Huyen, Vu Thi Hien, Ha Thi Thu, Le Hoang Duc, Nguyen Trung Nam, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nhung // Công nghệ sinh học - Vietnam Journal of Biotechnology .- 2022 .- Vol 20 - N1 .- P. 99-108 .- 610

Many studies show that hyperglycemia can lead to injury to the intestinal mucosal barrier, increasing the likelihood of infection, leading to intestinal inflammation in people with type 2 diabetes. Recently, investigations indicatethat the gut microbiome plays a very important role in thisdiseaseinwhichLactobacillus in the guthas been shown to regulate glucose and lipid metabolism, improving oxidative stress, andinhibiting inflammatory responses. In this study, by the method of oriented isolation, the number of Lactobacillus bacteria in the subgroup of healthy people was determined to be (3,9 ± 1.2) x 103CFU/g and in the group of diabetic patients was (2.7 ± 0.8) x 103 CFU/g. The study identified 17/68 selected Lactobacillus strains that were resistant to both Staphylococcus aureusATCC13709 and Escherichia coliATCC 11105. Moreover, these strains were also resistant to acid pH 2.
