This research aimed to investigate teachers’ perceptions and practices of project-based learning (PBL) in teaching speaking skill at some high schools in a Central Vietnam province. Despite the perceived benefits, EFL teachers reported that they did not apply this method frequently in their actual practices. Another finding showed teachers’ most encountered difficulties, including teachers’ lack of knowledge and experience of using PBL in teaching speaking, time pressure, and students’ low level of English proficiency.

This article reports on a study that investigated EFL undergraduate students' perceptions of the effectiveness of case-based learning in an English public speaking course at a Vietnamese university. These findings suggest that case-based learning can be a valuable pedagogical method for teaching English public speaking courses in Vietnamese universities and may potentially be adopted in other educational contexts to improve students’ critical thinking and communication skills.
